pH control just got a whole lot more interesting as Reef Factory’s pH Meter has been given new functionalities via the Smart Reef app. Up until now, the Reef Factory pH Meter has been a good pH monitor that displays live pH readings both via digital display and via the Smart Reef app on your phone. It can display your tank’s pH history and send notifications if pH goes out of your set desired range, but it is a monitor, and monitor only.
The latest software update however has equipped the pH Meter to enable automated actions via the Power Switcher smart socket, and that means a step change in what this device can do. Get the software upgrade, Power Switcher, and a dumb dosing pump, and the next time your pH takes a dip below your set values, at any time of day, you will be able to automatically administer your choice of liquid pH buffer to rectify that. So via monitor, smart socket, and dosing pump, the pH meter effectively becomes Reef Factory’s pH version of their KH Keeper – a pH Keeper. It should be able to control a solenoid and can also turn off any devices that may be responsible for raising or lowering tank pH. If all works as we think and hope it should do, many a reef tank’s stony corals will be richer for the consistent, high pH this upgraded device could help to offer.
