Quality Marine has announced that they have successfully bred and raised Purple Tangs, Zebrasoma xanthurum. The fish were bred and reared in their state-of-the-art hatchery in Los Angeles and will soon be available to their retail store partners.
Dean Kline and Renee Touse are the primary drivers behind the particular breakthrough at QM Labs’ Aquaculture facility. In a press release, QM said that the Aquaculture of Zebrasoma species presented several obstacles that their team has been able to overcome but despite these advancements, the process continues to be labor-intensive and costly.
The momentous achievement is not the first breeding success for QM Labs. Other in-house successes include Neon Blue Cleaner Gobies and both F1 Darwin and Darwin Misbar Ocellaris Clowns. They will now have small batches of captive-bred Purple Tangs available to augment the ongoing availability of their supply of them from the wild.
The sale of these and other aquacultured species by Quality Marine helps to fund ReefhabTM, a Quality Marine initiative dedicated to coral reef conservation, reef habitat restoration, and poverty alleviation. Among the initiatives that ReefhabTM supports, Quality Marine is very proud to support Rising Tide Conservation’s efforts to promote the aquaculture of marine ornamental species. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of their Aquacultured Purple Tangs will go directly to Rising Tide Conservation.
