Prolific Polish aquatic company Reef Factory made its first foray into return pumps this weekend with the launch of Base Pump. A controllable DC pump, Base Pump will be available in 5000lph/1321gph, 8000lph/2113gph, 10000lph/2642gph, and 13000lph/3434gph sizes, and apart from its paint job, at first glance, it looks like a generic Chinese pump from a well-known manufacturer.
It’s not unusual even for large aquatic companies to outsource their pumps, however, and very few brands manufacture their own. Reef Factory has added value and features to theirs by sprinkling some of their own software magic over it, integrating Base Pump into the Smart Reef 360 app, while giving it several useful smart features, including flow rate and energy consumption displays, programable feeding intervals, on and off, and push notifications via the app. It also comes with RF’s brand new, simplified device configuration, making set up and hook up much quicker and easier than before.
With Base Pump comes the opportunity for Reef Factory ecosystem users to integrate some more essential hardware, and we think it’s only a matter of time until we see Reef Factory branded wave pumps (and maybe even a protein skimmer,) joining the growing family of products too. European pricing ranges from 260 to 420 Euros, depending on the model.
