David Saxby’s D-D The Aquarium Solution has teamed up with Marco Rocks to bring its new range of rock called Coralline to the UK and Europe. Marco Rock is universally popular for its shape, texture, porosity, and price, and last year Marco Rocks experimented with producing its Reefsaver rock in a purple color, which it showed off for the first time at Reef-A-Palooza in Orlando in May.
Nine months later, the reef-safe purple dye has proved a success, and the co-branded Coralline rock range now comprises Reefsaver, Foundation, Premium Shelf, and Hybrid, with pink mortar to match.
Marco Rock is one of our favorite dry rocks. We like how the jagged pieces mesh together when aquascaping, and we know from experience that once mature, it becomes absolutely crawling with beneficial critters so we know they like it too. The tiny downside with any white, cream or beige rock is that it takes time to turn pink or purple with coralline algae, and the ugly phase is that bit more apparent while maturing.
Purple Marco should combine the best of both worlds, however, with shape, texture, porosity, and now purple color too, for those who crave it, and it has zero impact on the oceans. The price? Reefsaver starts at £169.99 for an 18kg box, Foundation and Hybrid are £229.99 for 18 kilos, and Premium Shelf, is £299.99.
