Red Sea has upgraded its popular Max Nano Reef Ready aquarium line to the Max Nano G2 Series, with extra features and an extended five-year warranty.
We don’t hide our affection for the Red Sea Max Nano as with a built-in protein skimmer, ATO, mechanical and chemical filtration, and a Wi-Fi controllable LED light we think it’s the most complete nano reef tank on the market. But when we saw the advent of Roller Filters we saw the potential even in nano tanks, we said a little prayer, and today we can announce that all the brand new Max Nano G2 Series aquariums – the Cube, Peninsula, and XL – are NanoMat and ReefATO+ ready, and that takes these super popular plug and play tanks to the next level. So what’s the same and what’s different between Max Nano G1, and G2?
Max Nano G2 model differences
On the outside, the three Max Nano G2 aquarium models look the same as the first generation. There’s the original 18”x18”x18” 20-gallon Cube, the elongate 18x18x23” 26.5-gallon Peninsula, and the chunky new 20x20x24” 33-gallon XL. All the popular G1 features remain including the ReefLED 50 lighting on a swivel bracket, the built-in protein skimmer and return pump wired into a single control panel (both powered by Sicce pumps,) the nano filter sock, the built-in gravity top-off reservoir, removable weir comb and more.
You can set up all three out of the box and they are already very complete and suitable for beginners and experienced reefers alike. The tanks, their flow, filtration, and lighting are already proven thousands of times over, by hobbyists all over the world. And that’s reassuring.
But for those of us who have already tasted what a ReefMat Roller Filter is like versus cleaning dirty socks, and the app-controlled ReefATO+ with all its innovations versus the small, standard gravity ATO, we are drooling at the option of being able to fit two new toys to these popular nano reef tanks and to us, they are the main difference between G1 and G2. The ability to upgrade in the future.
Red Sea NanoMat Roller Filter for Max Nano G2
Red Sea’s nano roller filter, the NanoMat, isn’t out yet, so we can’t give many details at this point other than what we see in the video below. It’s due in the summer of 2024, it looks slimline, is easy to retrofit, and is even auto-advancing, so no cogs to wind by hand.
We want to be first in the queue to try one out and although it (and the ATO+) don’t come as standard with the new Max Nano G2 series aquariums, if we had one we would without doubt pay the extra to fit, use and play with them. ATOs and rollers are fundamental to larger reefs, so having them available for the Max Nano community in the future just solidifies Red Sea’s commitment to their smaller tank owners too.
5-year warranty
All Max Nano G2 Series aquariums come with a three-year warranty as standard, which can be extended to five years from purchase. Extended warranties don’t usually sway us like the shiny new equipment itself does, they remind us of buying boring stuff like washing machines and vacuum cleaners. But we just reality-checked the date and if you buy one this year you’re good until 2029…and if you buy one next year your tank is covered until 2030! We will all be so old by then, but that extra peace of mind may just sway you with your next nano tank purchase!
