On March 11th, 2021 the very first “Reef Therapy” session was posted. A long-haired Jake Adams sat in front of the Innovative Marine aquariums at the Reef Builders Studio and Mark van der Wal, was at his computer with a sofa in the background.
Jake’s vast knowledge paired with Mark’s practical experience was a winning combination. It just worked.
For many, the podcast is a companion during tank maintenance or driving to and from work. For me, I just couldn’t get enough “reef talk” and hearing Jake and Mark chat filled that void. I didn’t care what the conversation was about, I just wanted to be present and learn as much as possible.
After Jake’s passing there was talk about whether the podcast should continue or not. I’m happy the decision was made to move forward. While it will never be the same, the idea of progressing the hobby through continued education is a core pillar of Reef Builders.
While everyone was in town for Reefstock Denver 2024, we gathered at the studio to record session 100 of the podcast. Guests included Windsor & Reef Adams, Luc Adams (Jake’s Brother), Cris Capp (Owner of Aquatic Art Inc.), Raj Shingadia (Reef Builders/MRC), Than Thein (Tidal Gardens), Chris Carney (Friend of Jake), Rob Mougey (Friend of Jake), Chris Meckley (Owner of ACI Aquaculture) and Evie Hale (Reef Builders).
