We got to see a Neptunian Cube tank for the first time while attending Love2Reef, and the Magic Pro range in particular, which features an unconventional but clever weir. In general, aquarium manufacturers build a weir box complete with comb and pipework but have to make the decision wether to place it internally (like Red Sea,) or externally, like Nyos. Neptunian does already supply a range with an internal box weir called the Magic Series, but they also make one called Magic Pro, with a super slimline weir box built into the back of the tank that’s so thin, it’s like it’s not there.
It features a centralized weir comb and twin angle adjustable return nozzles, but it also features bottom intake strainers for both top and bottom scavenging, significantly aiding detritus removal from the bottom of the tank. The pipework is built into a second base panel too, so both inlet and outlet pipework are hidden, with nothing protruding out of the back of the tank.
Aluminum frame cabinet
All Neptunian Cube tanks stand on aluminum frames with PVC panels to prevent water ingress, as well as including a feature-rich sump complete with sock chamber, reactor/skimmer chamber, return pump chamber with probe holders, and an overhead ATO tank. The sumps feature adjustable height baffles, the company is working on a roller filter to fit in the sock chamber (available separately,) and the cabinets come with a small electrical box built in.
Neptunian Cube has been producing tanks for ten years now and was one of the first to combine metal and plastic to make stands that would repel water. We’d seen them advertised in Australia but this is the first time for them in the UK, coming courtesy of distributor ALF. Three models make up the Magic Pro range, at 60cm, 90cm, and 120cm in length, and 247, 389, and 480 liters total system volume.
Magic Pro’s flat weir has solved the dilemma of having to choose from either an inner skyscraper or a backpack-like weir box on the rear of the tank, and for some people, that matters. It’s nice to see the aquarium marketplace widen in terms of design and diversity.
