Yesterday, eBay updated its policies and ended the sale of live fish, corals, and other animals on the site. In total, they gave sellers a 30-day notice to cease the sale of prohibited items. It’s to be seen how strict enforcement will be on this policy or if users will be able to evade the algorithm by posting “fake coral decoration panty dropper blasto for sale,” similar to how sellers can evade Facebook. Regardless, this is likely to decrease the number of sellers on eBay, leaving people scrambling for other options. In recent years, some sites such as ReefnBid have popped up, which could be a promising industry alternative to primary sites like eBay and Etsy. How/if this will affect the market is to be seen. Below is a screenshot and link to the new policy.
