Robertus Reef hits the one year mark, celebrates with a flashback video

Robertus is an interesting Dutch reefer who has been cataloging his 60 gallon reef tank every two months as it progresses. It’s been a full year since he started adding corals to his reef tank and we’d say he now has a gorgeous mini reef to show off which is as beautiful and diverse as possible for this size of tank. Many of you are probably familiar with the “7 Ps” (proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance or some version thereof) and the reef of Robertus is a perfect example of this slogan. Robert clearly spent a lot of time planning out this reef tank; from the equipment, to the reefscape and it’s operation. Although Robertus may have waited 3 months for the tank to mature before adding any real livestock to it, one year later he has a gorgeous SPS reef to show for it, and it will likely be overgrown within another year. Although it is impressive what Robertus has accomplished with using just T5 fluorescent tubes, we hope Robertus will eventually take up the challenge of repeating these growth and color results with an LED aquarium light. We believe that the generous use of water movement and minimal use of sand substrate is a big part of the reason for the rapid success of Robertus Reef. Can you see any other details which may have helped this tank come along so nicely? For more information on this beautiful reef aquarium project visit the Robertus Reef website.

    Looks great of course.

A little shocked at 2 month stocking levels. What tank did he transplant from?

“7 Ps” (proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance or some version thereof)
^^this is the worst thing ever, nothing high tech, he put a insane amount of money to start with more then 90% of people can spend to bring a reef into their home.
should be more like the “7k” rule…spend 7k on a 100gallon tank and you will have a awesome tank to.

Very nice looking tank. I’ll definitely checkout that site. I would love to see what’s in the cabinet underneath.

Will also be interesting to see what happens in the next 6 months or so. My 90 went through it’s worst phase from about 1-1.5 years and usually needs some significant pruning and rearranging every couple years or things start to overgrow and restrict flow and light.

Ahh yes, Zeovit system as I suspected. People love to hate on Zeovit but once you try it you’ll probably find the results very impressive. I’ve been using it about 8 months now and have noticed a huge improvement in my tank as well. This goes to show what using it from day 1 can achieve in a short period of time.

why would a lack of sand help?

i can see the growth in the tank caused by the zeovit and the ca reactor.

This tank is not just lit with T5. He uses 10 54 watt T5 and 2 250 watt HQI 13000k bulbs. You can see the shimmer in the video.
