Alteco EpoPutty is a nifty underwater adhesive epoxy

While there is no shortage of clay type putty varieties to aquascape your corals with, you can color me impressed with Alteco’s EpoPutty. The biggest issue with most epoxy putty is that they temporarily cloud the water and screw with your skimmer. Some putty mixtures also shed particles when manipulating a frag into the adhesive. EpoPutty nixes all those negatives by being a quick-setting and cloudless alternative two part epoxy.

I found EpoPutty to be way more malleable and sticky than other “aquarium” two part spoxies and Epo Putty also didn’t interfere with the protein skimmer. It can be found online for less than ten bucks per 100 grams and UK reefers have been big fans of Epo Putty for several years now. If you’re in need of some two part epoxy, Epo Putty is definitely a good product to consider adding to your aquarium maintenance arsenal.

i use jb water weld, no clouding, no skimmer fuss, and its dirt cheap at walmart. it takes food coloring fairly well so you can tint it.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll check it out. I’m assuming it’s “Reef safe” ?

I use JB Water Weld as well. It does mess with the skimmer, but it works very well and is reef safe. Aquamend was better quality, and it was easier to tell when it was mixed as the two parts were different color (JB Water Weld has white and gray parts). Home Depot switched from Aquamend to JB Water Weld a couple of years ago so it’s not readily available at local stores anymore.

OK, good— this stuff sounds more pliable than the standard putties and don’t make the skimmer rabid. I wonder if it hardens any quicker or slower.

and for those of you that are using the jb water weld….how much work time do you have befor you cant work with it any more??? Epo Putty has a 2 hour full cure time out of water and about 2.5 under water…gives you plenty of time to make your rock work look its best!!

EpoPutty is reef safe, very strong, very good price as well. I using him last year, no problem with skimmer, cloudiness…. the best glue I used so far

I have been using this. It will still mess your skimmer if you use a lot (e.g. about 1/4 of the tubes). But it will be OK again after turning off the skimmer for 4-5 hours.

Unfortunately it is not as sticky as I expect and want, albeit it is better than many other glues that I had used before.
