The new DYMAX Super Size protein skimmers appear to be some economical proteins skimmers in two model categories — Beckett and recirculating. The Singapore-based company doesn’t have too much information out on these models but from the five available on the company’s website each skimmer varies on height with the diameter remaining constant. From the short DYMAX SSV400 to the tallest SSV1500, the company has this to say:
The DYMAX Super size Beckett Skimmer has a re-circulating design, creating a tremendous amount of foam by using an advanced venturi system. This mixture of air and water is driven down the large diameter mixing tube, and will be pump back in to the body to offer the highest possible extraction per pass through.
All skimmers share a 250mm diameter body (about 9.84 in.) and range in recommended tank size capacity from 2,000l to 20,000l (about 528 to 5,283 gallons). Some quick price checking shows the SSV400 on a South African etailer running around $131 USD. We haven’t seen too many economy Beckett-style skimmers on the market at all and if this thing works, DYMAX may have a retro-niche in the hobby amongst the cone skimmer direction the market is taking. Continue reading for some brief stats on these skimmers.
