The ICE CooL.E.D. is a 27 watt LED spotlight from Oceanic Corals sporting Cree XP-E diodes and sixty degree optics. The ICE CooL.E.D. really could use a better name, even if it’s just the 17,500 Kelvin color temperature that is being touted with the lamp. The 17.5K LED spot costs just under $190 and it closely resembles the newer LeDio 27 watt LED spotlights. However, the LeDio 27 watt spotlights feature a slightly beefier twisted heatsink and Cree’s best XP-G LEDs with some inclusions of amber and U.V. LEDs to spice up the color spectrum.
As with the LeDio 27, our concern with the 27 watt Ice Cooled spotlight is that the LEDs are all clustered in the center. If real intensity is what you’re looking for, this tight LED arrangement is great but for smaller applications, the variability of light from the center to the edge of the light beam will be hard to manage. If you’re looking for a 27 watt LED light to do a small tank, you might be better off getting a fixture with the LEDs more spread out, and having 27 one watt LEDs is generally going to produce more light and more even spread than nine, three watts LEDs, especially with passive cooling.
