The Spanish Flag grouper, Gonioplectrus hispanus, is one of the rarest and most colorful groupers in the sea and second only to the Neptune Grouper, Cephalopholis igarashiensis. Due to their deepwater habitat, it’s very rare that spanish flag groupers are collected for the aquarium trade and when they are, Spanish Flag specimens almost always go to rare fish collectors in Asia.
But for once, a live Spanish Flag grouper has stayed in the Western Hemisphere with Absolutely Fish ponying up the cash to offer this extremely rare fish to an American buyer. Even if you don’t have the $2000 required to take home this one-of-a-kind colorful grouper, Absolutely Fish has made a video of the Spanish Flag which is totally free to view, embedded after the break.
