Ecotech Coral Glue, the first product in the Ecotech Elements line is not an April Fool’s prank and it isn’t just a big bottle of glue with a fancy sticker and a hefty price tag. Last week we took the Ecotech Coral Glue for a spin on one of our reef tanks, mounting frags and small colonies alike with impressive speed. After giving our coral mounts a week to make sure that Ecotech Marine didn’t send us a trick glue that disintegrated after a few days, we can assure you that the Ecotech Coral Glue is the stickiest and fastest curing cyanoacrylate gel we’ve ever used.
To be clear, Ecotech Coral Glue is not miraculous, it isn’t necessarily a complete replacement for the regular tiny tubes of super glue gel you can get for a buck at the cornerstore. If you’re doing simple propagation with clean cut frags onto fresh disks, by all means keep using the affordable standard-isse super glue gel; most regular fixing jobs, SPS and zoanthid frags would likely fal under this category. But if you are looking for a chemical fastener where epoxy would be overkill but regular super glue gel seems inadequate, that’s where Ecotech Coral Glue will shine. The difference between Ecotech Coral Glue and the regular stuff is like the difference between two part epoxy and the super fast curing German epoxy from Premium Aquatics; the regular stuff does the job but these premium ones just work a little better.
The Ecotech Coral Glue comes in a 295ml container with an effective non-clogging pen-cap and it retails for $49. Fifty bucks is a lot for a thing of super glue but 300ml is a lot of glue, and it should last you and your whole reef club quite a long time. As good as Ecotech’s Coral Glue is, we see most power reefers having regular super glue and epoxy on hand for various sticky uses in addition to the Ecotech Elements Coral Glue.
