The white yellow tang pictured above is a newly collected aberrantly colored Zebrasoma which we are codenaming ‘Powder’. Casper the white tang has been a sensation and the trophy fish of World Wide Corals since he was collected. However it now appears that Casper may have left some siblings back on the reef and Last week Hawaiian tropical fish collector Ron Tubbs collected this gorgeous white Zebrasoma flavescens.
Like his brother Casper, Powder is an all white yellow tang who differs only in having some yellow-brown pigmentation in his iris (Casper’s is all white) but most notable is the thin bright yellow stripe that edges the anterior of his anal fin for a few spines. As we explained with Casper, Powder is not an albino since he does have some pigmentation, the giveaway sign being the black in his pupil which would be red in the case of true albinism.
Powder the new white yellow tang has already been consigned to a new home and although we do not yet know where that will be, it shouldn’t be too hard to track down another white yellow tang in the aquarium wilds. If you happen to see a white yellow tang with a thin yellow stripe and a big price tag, please do let us know where.
