Panama Zoanthids are the latest soon-to-be craze in the polyp collecting world. Australian and West Aussie Zoanthids are fine and all but since they are collected by westerners and shipped halfway across the world, even the mediocre colonies of Aussie zoas are going for big bucks and good luck fighting for the individually priced polyps of really nice Australian zoanthids. LiveAquaria has a lock on incredible blue zoanthids from Panama, collected on the Western coast and therefore officially in the Eastern Pacific where they are collected alongside the red Epizoanthus.
The Panamanian zoanthids are not only affordable as colonies, but a big majority of the zoanthids from Panama that we are seeing have lots and lots of blue coloration. The Panamanian Zoanthids remind us very much in color and in shape of the incredible zoanthids from Coral Morphologic except perhaps with a little bit more of that Pacific zoanthid touch that we’ve been used to all these years. Surely the Panamanian Zoanthid harvesters left some brown zoanthids back on the reef but in the meantime we look forward to scoring some blue central American zoanthids to add to our own collection.
