We touched on the LGMAquari HOB skimmer spied at Zoomark last month and we have a couple of other interesting products coming from the Italian boutique manufacturer. LGMAquari was showing off a new fluidized bed filter along with a phytoplankton reactor at the show and were able to get a brief look at them through fellow blog DaniReef.
The fluidized bed filter has the feed pump mounted underneath giving you more horizontal real estate in your sump. In order to prevent the media from escaping and finding its way into the feed pump, LGMAquari uses a double tube method to solve the issue. Water is fed up a smaller center tube where it hits a cap, forcing it to travel downwards on the outer tube and then out small slits on the bottom and through the filtration media. The bottom-fed pump design is becoming more and more popular allowing a cleaner installation and less sump space needed.
For those of you that culture your own phytoplankton, the new LGMAquari phytoplankton reactor. We weren’t able to get too many details on the reactor but from its design it looks pretty straightforward for a phyto reactor with inlets for air and outlets for harvesting your culture. We are not sure the final price of these units but its good to see more variety from an interesting brand.
