Whether you want to know the color spread of the LEDs, or the given PAR value at a particular depth, AquaticLife has taken great care to put together a complete data set to their LED Marine Light Fixture. With a good balance of white, blue and some purple LEDs, the AquaticLife 1W LED light has the color, spread and punch to light up a wide range of aquarium setups. We haven’t yet seen the 1W LED marine light in action but the specs of the device appears to be plenty reef capable, and probably looks really good over fish too.
Providing a data set of color temperature, PAR values and distribution over typical aquarium dimensions is something that Dr. Sanjay Joshi has been doing for a decade or more, but we think that all LED light manufacturers could follow the example of offering a standard data set, as Ecoxotic and Ecotech Marine have also done in the past. Even if we don’t all understand chromaticity and what a PAR value of a given LED color really means to our corals and our tanks, the first step in familiarizing the community is making the data available for us to start being able to connect the dots between the raw performance of LEDs and how that translates to results over our reef tanks.
