The new AquaMaxx Nano Star Calcium Reactor is not the first nano-sized reactor from the Southern California company but the latest iteration does feature an even smaller size without trading off on performance. Oh yeah, did we mention it is still holding a pricetag around $140? Two years ago we reviewed the AquaMaxx Nano CR-1 reactor and were impressed with the quality of the build and equipment used while delivering a calcium reactor at a nice price and we are hoping the new Nano Star reactor fits the same bill.
Just like the previous version, the AquaMaxx Nano Star Calcium Reactors uses an up-flow design. The acrylic body is seamless and has a simple, removable lid to make adding more media a simple process. The small footprint is probably the biggest selling point measuring in at just 7 1/2 x 7 in. with a height of 12 in. designed for aquariums up to 75 gallons. The Nano Star reactor will hold up to a liter of media in the 4 in. diameter reaction chamber. The reactor is fed with a Sicce Syncra Silent 0.5 pump to give you quiet performance with a small footprint and efficient operation. The Nano Star is retailing right around $140 and as with other calcium reactors, does not include the CO2 system.
