Xenoxon is a Hungarian company we previously covered for their array of colorful lights and power packed protein skimmers. The Xenoxon mamiCA reactor breaks the line however and is far removed from the bright and colorful aquarium products that call the same manufacturer home. Build out of black acrylic this Calcium reactor is mean looking, and we mean this in a good way. CNC machined to perfection, the Xenoxon mamiCA 500 reactor is looking serious about dissolving some calcium media.
The design of the Xenoxon mamiCA reactor is interesting. Since the basic layout of calcium reactors has been left unchanged for the past couple of years, the Xenoxon reactor doesn’t feature anything new or terrible exciting, but small details set the mamiCA 500 apart from the rest. The thumb screws for example are over-sized and should be easily removable by those of us with gorilla-hands, although they do add a strange aesthetic to the reactor. The reactor also features its own custom clear acrylic venturi which certainly looks great and takes the reactor away from the grey acrylic plumbing look so many reactors still seem to hang on to. Pricing and US availability is currently unknown, but considering Xenoxon has recently been expanding in the European market, including the UK, we might find out very soon.
