NeverWet is a borderline magical waterproofing spray which repels all manner of liquids – that includes soda, sauces, syrup, mud and anything else with a liquid component. The two-part waterproofing spray was first revealed two years ago but now NeverWet and Rustoleum are about to launch the product to consumers across the nation through good ole Home Depots. Now that the super hydrophobic material is available to us all, the diversity of aquarium applications this product could enable is truly exciting and mind bending. Imagine never having to wipe off water stains from the outside of your tank because any spilled water beads off. Even a careful application to the upper inside edge of the tank could prevent any kind of salt creep and keep that bare rim looking spotless.
You could spray NeverWet inside your protein skimmer cup for much easier cleanup of skimmate and you might even be able to apply it to the riser neck of your skimmer so you don’t have to clean that part up either! Protect your LED lights from minor splashes and salt spray, not to mention our growing clusters of electronic devices, drivers and pump controllers.
Of course the use of this waterproofing wonder material is provided that NeverWet’s two part spray is relatively non-toxic to aquarium life but since this is now a consumer product, and considering the huge number of examples provided in the demo video below, we’ve got to believe this stuff is safe. Rustoleum’s NeverWet is available in a two-can package for $19.95 which should be good for coverage of between 10 and 15 square feet.
So who’s going to try it first?
