The Nuvo Shallow Reef series of aquariums are a whole new breed of All In One marine aquariums from Innovative Marine which could shift the aquarium hobby in some profound ways. Besides Red Sea’s Max S line of tanks, all AIOs more or less fell into the ‘nano’ aquarium category but with the release of Innovative Marine’s SR series of aquariums, novice to intermediate marine and reef enthusiasts will be able to dabble in All In Ones that are much larger.
One of the first things that sets the Shallow Reef series apart, besides their size, is their dimensions. All reefers and aquarists in general will tell you with fervor that a broad shallower tank is best for keeping all manner of fish, plants and corals. Since the Shallow Reef series Nuvo aquariums are targeting reef aquarium keepers, you’ll be sure to be able to keep and reach a lot of your favorite corals in these broad shallow reef tanks.
The SR Shallow Reef series will come in three sizes, all of which are 24 inches front to back, 16 inches high include a three foot long 60 gallon, a four foot long 80 gallon and a six feet long 120 gallon aquarium. If those shallow dimensions are a little different, the stands they come with will also be out of the norm with all the stands being 40 inches tall to bring the shorty reef close to eye level. The SR 60 and SR 80 are also confirmed to be using high clarity, low iron glass.
But how do you stuff all the inner workings of a three, four or six foot long AIO aquarium without causing the user/owner to reach painfully far into the tank to reach all the guts? Easy, you concentrate all the high-maintenance items in the corners, close to the sides so that everything that needs to be serviced is right there within reach.
All of the SR Series Nuvo aquariums come with the tank, stand and appropriate pumps, fittings and spin streams to make them all go but the most intriguing component is something we’ve never seen before, at least not from a manufacturer. Al of the Shallo Reef Nuvos will come with a “recessed aluminum framed lid” which we presume is like a net-lid for the reef tank which will let more light in, and preserve the high gas exchange but will also prevent the fish from becoming floor models.
Innovative Marine will be displaying the Nuvo SR 60 and SR 80 at MACNA this weekend for their world debut at which point we should learn more details on lighting options, pricing and availability for the exciting new Shallow Reef Series of All In One Aquariums.
