As we all know, there are thousands of different species of fish available in the aquarium trade, and we all have our favorites. There is no denying, however, that the Peppermint Angelfish, Paracentyropyge boylei, is by far one of the most highly sought after [and expensive] reef fish this hobby has ever seen. As we recently reported, an epic number of these beautiful angels were being held at BlueHarbor in Osaka, Japan. Since then, several of the highly coveted boyleis have been shipped around the world to various wholesalers, retailers and high-end fish collectors.

The first Peppermint Angel to land in the United States arrived at Living Reef Orlando just days ago. Whether they plan to sell it (and for how much) remains to be seen.
The second Peppermint we’ve witnessed arrive stateside is the juvenile boylei being offered for sale from NYAquatic for the collector-friendly price of $19,995.00. [Video]
Last but not least, we were delighted to discover that a Peppermint made it’s way over to Thailand to find a forever home in Chingchai’s incredible reef. [Video]
With wholesalers working hard to bring more of these incredible gems into the United States, we can’t wait to see where an elusive Peppermint Angel might end up next. The fact that several of them have been brought here within the last few days is amazing and unprecedented! To all the fish collectors out there, we have to ask; how much would YOU be willing to pay for one?
Fun Fact: Did you know that excluding the Paracentyropyge boylei kept at the Waikiki Aquarium, this is the first time that a Peppermint Angel has hit the United States in 20 years?
