It looks like the Reef Octopus is at it again with another version of the Reef Octopus controllable DC water pump in both a circulation edition and one designed for protein skimmers. If you’re not familiar with the benefits of the DC water movers, one of the best reasons to invest in one is they give you more precision in controlling flow electronically rather than by restricting water output via valves.
We saw the prototypes at the CoralVue booth at MACNA back in September and were optimistic. From the images and brief data posted on the company website, we can see some cosmetic improvements and we are just hoping to see more internal improvements to the first generation OEM Diablo DC 5500s pump,
One of the most compelling images on the Reef Octopus was the head pressure loss table that shows minimal loss over two meters in height and even decent performance from two to three meters before performance really tapers off. If you compare these to your traditional AC pumps, you will notice a consistent slope of head pressure loss and can be somewhere between 40-50% loss at the two-meter mark.
As we’re just being teased with a “coming soon” message, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out when these will ship and what the MSRP will look like.
