The DOC Comline Skimmer 9012 from Tunze is a new take on the specialized internally mounted protein skimmer. Rated for aquariums from 50 to 300 gallons, the DOC Skimmer 9012 uses two magnets to secure the skimmer body to aquariums walls up to 1/2 an inch thick.
The heart of the DOC Skimmer 9012 is a Tunze Foamer 9012.40 which is internally mounted within the body of the skimmer. Tunze uses an interesting “Flash Skimming” technique coupled with true surface skimming and very fine bubbles to quickly remove protein and undesirable nutrients from the aquarium water, even as a stand alone filtration option for simplified marine and reef aquariums.
Noise canceling vibration pads in the magnet mount, an air silencer and a super quiet pump are all designed to make the DOC Skimmer as quiet as possible while a patented over-foaming protection system allows the new 9012 from Tunze to perform its best with minimal adjustments. The Tunze DOC Skimmer 9012 carries a UK list price of 231£ which is about $389 in US currency but we’ll have to wait and see what the actual price ends up being for U.S. distribution when it becomes available.
