The Giesemann Galaxxy 500 LED is a new high powered LED light from the respected German manufacturer which is packing a lot of high technology before and after the point of light generation. The Giesemann Galaxxy is truly an apt name for a light fixture that is populated with a veritable constellation of LED diodes in a number of colors to create one gigantic ‘multichip’ LED.
The Giesemann Galaxxy is not a mere multichip LED light as in fact it contains more than 200 discrete high powered Cree X-series diodes in a range of colors to produce a full-spectrum color temperature of 16,00 Kelvin – the first such high powered light of its kind designed exclusively for the needs of the very largest aquariums.
Five hundred watts of LED power packed into such a very small space takes a new kind of cooling effort which is precisely what really makes the Giesemann Galaxxy possible. A massive vapor-cooled heatsink is affixed to the PCB ensuring thorough and rapid absorption of the heat where it is generated at the source with the vapors actively moving throughout the heatsink to help in the overall thermal management of this beast of a light.
With a large dimpled reflector taking the place of any secondary lenses, when it was fired up the Galaxxy 500 made a huge spotlight on the ceiling which was blindingly bright to any bystanders within its field of light. As with most things first displayed at InterZoo the sample of the Galaxxy 500 LED that was displayed in the InterZoo booth was a production sample and while we believe that Giesemann has a winning recipe for this particular high-powered LED light form factor, time will tell when Giesemann will bring it to market and how much it may cost.
