The time for waiting is over as one of the hottest new lights of the year, the AI Prime LED, is starting to become available this year. Despite being a “brand” name LED light the AI Prime is one of the brightest, smallest, cheapest, and most versatile LED lights the market has ever enjoyed.
Those are some high bars to hit but follow along with us as we tell you what the AI Prime is all about, and you’ll realize that there is quite possibly no other light like it on the market. The AI Prime LED has 13 LEDs, a prime number of diodes with all the major colors you’d expect to see from a quality LED light from Aqua Illumination.
The baker’s dozen of LEDs are represented by four Cree XP-G2 cool whites, one Osram Oslon deep red, one cree XP-E2 green, and a full range of blue light emitters including two Osram Square Deep blues, three Cree XP-E2 blues, one Semiled UV at 405nm and another at 415nm. All these carefully selected LEDs are grouped tightly together under one of the best-designed LED cluster lenses AI has ever designed which creates a excellent light distribution spread while near perfectly blending all the colors.
All of these colors are tunable through six channels of control to finely adjust the spectrum that the AI Prime puts out, but the real magic is in how it is controlled. The AI Prime LED is skipping the need for any kind of secondary control devices and going directly to your phone, with one-to-one control via the available iOS and Android apps for smartphones, although it will also be compatible with the AI Director. Connect to one AI prime and it becomes the master unit while all other AI Primes in the environment will mimic the master as slave modules.
As we’ve mentioned before, some LED lights are only as good as their mounting solution and to that end the AI Prime has two very innovative mounting options. There’s a hanging accessory for the AI prime LED which will be priced at $19, and an attractive metal mounting arm which will be priced at $29, both of which finally incorporate a feature we’ve been dying to see more of, which is the ability to angle the light with a swiveling mechanism to fine tune the part of the reef that it is illuminating.
It sure doesn’t hurt that AquaIllumination has packaged all these features into one of the most attractive nano LED lights we’ve ever seen and for this concentration of features they could easily charge a lot more than the $199 retail price that the AI Prime LED will be selling for. At this price we don’t know how they even stay in business, or how comparable lights will even pretend to compete but one thing’s for sure, we are really excited about using the AI Prime LED over our own corals and look forward to sharing with you how this turbo charged little lighting puck performs in the real world.
