Japanese marine aquarium manufacturer Perfect Reef Systems (PRS) is really gunning to bring their innovative Corrente and Corrente+ digital flow meter system to the U.S.. PRS has recently reprogrammed their flowmeters to readout in units that are more familiar to American aquarists, with the flowrate being reported in gallons per hour, and the temperature in Fahrenheit.
As a refresher, the Corrente system consists of a sensor embedded in a specific fitting that can be anywhere from 1/2″ to 2″ in diameter, and these sensors are paired up with a remote readout module that display both flowrate and temperature. The PRS Corrente comes in either a splashproof or waterproof version, with the Corrente capable of measuring up to 1400 gallons per hour through a 1″ diameter pipe and the Corrente+ can accurately display up to 3000 gallons per hour through the 2″ pipe.
Although the Corrente digital flowmeter is one of the most innovative aquarium devices we’ve seen in a long while, we’ve still yet to see any of these installed in America. Perhaps the new Corrente flowmeters with Gallons and Fahrenheit will make this unique aquarium accessory more attractive to American reefers, and PRS is still looking for a distributor on this side of the pond.
