The Reefdoser Evo 4 is a new ridiculously cheap and somewhat different new dosing pump system from Aqua Medic. The Reefdoser Evo 4 is a 4-channel doser with a wired remote which will make programming and using the thing so much easier than many others on the market.
When we first saw the Reefdoser Evo 4 from Aqua Medic, we were impressed to see the included remote control. One of our biggest complaints about some of the newer, cheaper crop of reef aquarium dosers is the included controller that is built into the front panel. This controller panel is usually very small to be able to be crammed onto the front panel of the dosing pump’s housing.
With a wired remote the Aqua Medic Reefdoser Evo 4 can have a much larger screen, not to mention is so much easier to hold in your hand and navigate the menus. The Reefdoser Evo 4 clearly has a Jebao-inspired main box, which itself is a direct copy of the established GHL Profilux doser, minus all the really cool networked and controllability features. The also-ran heritage of the Reefdoser Evo 4 can be overlooked for the remote control, which is a very cool and useful differentiating feature.
The other feature of the 4-channel Aqua Medic Reefdoser Evo 4 is its groundbreaking introductory price. The Reefdoser Evo 4 is just hitting U.S. shores but in Europe where’s it’s been available for a short time, the main unit is selling for €139.90, or roughly $150 in dollars, and we’ve even seen it for sale for as low as €119, or $130.
Meanwhile, the Reefdoser Evo 4 can also link up with the Reefdoser Add 4, a slave unit that adds four more channels of control for a paltry €49, or $53.50. That makes the Reefdoser Evo 4 + Add 4 the cheapest 8-channel dosing solution only about $200, the cheapest ever by a country mile. In fact the pricing on the new Reefdoser Evo 4 is so cheap that it should raise some flags, but only time will tell if this is a really cheap unit that will fall apart over time, or if the cost-performance ratio will lead to a decent value in the long term.
