The latest batch of Waveline DC pumps from RLSS are finally shipping with new Apex ready drivers, and it’s not a moment too soon. All of a sudden, the entire aquarium industry is jumping on controllable DC pumps in a huge way as if they were the next LED lights.
Over two years ago we reported that Reef Life Support Systems would release a new generation of their Waveline pumps, complete with totally upgraded internals, motor and networkable drivers. The pumps came but their Apex-Ready drivers never did, until now.
The newest batch of Waveline pumps now feature that long-overdue Apex-Ready connectivity in the form of an RJ45 jack. This ethernet-size port corresponds to two like it on the base station of the Neptune Systems Apex controller, and it enables direct 0-10v control of the Waveline pumps.
RLSS initially planned to launch this feature as soon as the new generation of DC Waveline pumps were ready, but they went to work on a digital interface concept for the driver that never panned out. Nevertheless, the new Apex Ready Wavelines are finally ready for prime time, with killer performance and an attractive price point.
The new driver for the DC Wavelines is actually an 11-speed controller for all models, ranging from the new 660 gph Waveline DC-2500 for $110, to the big daddy DC-12,000 pushing 3,170 gph for just $299. RLSS’s new Waveline pumps with the Apex-Ready RJ45 port are shipping this week to major retailers and while this is one of the newest DC pumps to play nice with the Apex aquarium controller, it certainly won’t be the last.
