The Azu Deluxe Reef Sump is a new model of under tank aquarium filters from the prodigious purveyor of acrylic aquarium goods, Eshopps. The Azu line of sumps is an evolution of Eshopps’ third generation RS series of aquarium filter sumps with a long list of small improvements to make this sump attractive even to power reefers.
Eshopps built the Azu with refinements to every part of their reef sump with special emphasis on Berlin reefing methods which focus on strong protein skimming and foregoes any kind of built in refugium. The defining characteristic of the Azu Reef Sump is the clear blue bracing spanning the top which gives the sump body added strength and rigidity, while also sealing up the first and third chambers to reduce noise and evaporation.
However the most important feature of the Azu Reef Sump is most definitely the adjustable protein skimmer chamber with a footprint large enough for 9 by 12 inches. A large baffle inside the second chamber for the protein skimmer can be raised and lowered to change the water height from between six and eleven inches deep. So whether you want to use a skimmer that likes it shallow like a Tunze 9410 DC, or one that likes it deep like a Vertex Omega 150, the new Azu Reef Sump has got you covered.
In addition to these major features, the Azu Deluxe Reef Sump also sports a suite of refinements throughout its design including built in probe holder, dosing lines, and wire holders. There is also a removable tray for heaters and media bags, and two holes both for the drain and the return lines going to the tank.
The only model of Azu Deluxe Reef Sump currently announced by Eshopps is the Azu 100 priced at $309. The Eshopps Azu 100 is 24 x 14 x 14 inches, containing a volume of approximately 17 gallons and suitable for tanks up to 100 gallons.
