Seachem has been on a tear of releasing new products lately; some of these are interesting accessories like their stainless steel inflow & outflow tubes, while others like the new Vibrant Sea are an important change in the veteran aquarium company’s product catalog.
The Seachem Coral Plugs, while easy to overlook will fill out the propagation tools that it has brought to market in recent years. Shaped like an elongated hexagon like the Seachem logo, the new Coral Plugs are specially designed to ‘fill in’ when placed on eggcrate. The hexagon frag plug idea has been visited before by Reefkoi and Ecotech Marine, but it’s nice to see Seachem getting serious about this once fringe-niche of the reef aquarium hobby.
Seachem claims their Coral Plugs are ‘enriched’ with calcium and magnesium, as if corals could absorb these from surfaces they grow on (they don’t) but it certainly won’t hurt the overall reef aquarium chemistry. Seachem Reef Plugs are some of the smallest commercially made frag plugs we’ve ever seen, and they will come in a 12-pack later this year.
