So if you’ve been watching the site closely, you might have noticed we’ve been on a tear of putting out videos about traveling to Australian and visiting a ton of different fish stores. It’s been one helluva ride but finally we’re coming up on our visit to one of Australia’s biggest players in the marine aquarium hobby, Cairns Marine.
It felt kind of surreal to write about this powerhouse of Australian marine fish and corals for so many years and then to finally arrive and see the place in person. (I also caught my first Corsola outside the facility so I think that was a good sign).
Cairns Marine is nowhere near as sprawling and warehousey as the Los Angeles wholesalers but that’s because they really make very efficient use of space. There’s thousands of cubicles that turnover with fresh caught fish very regularly, and double-stacked coral flats with a living catalog of all the corals that the Great Barrier Reef has to offer.
In America we get to see the best Australian fish and corals in ones and twos, but while at Cairns Marine it was more like tankfuls or entire rows of the same species of iconic reef creatures. We hope you enjoy part one of this visit to Cairns Marine where the focus is primarily on the fish, and lookout for part two where the attention is aimed squarely on the corals.
