You know, for years I always described myself as not a zoanthid nut, I mean I really like them but not in the same granular detail that self described zoanthid collectors might entertain. But something has changed recently as I’ve found myself drawn to some very high quality zoanthids lately.
First it was a sick colony of Spellbinder zoanthids I saw at Reefapalooza Orlando last weekend, and had to have a little frag of for my home tank. Then this weekend I found myself taking a really good look at the choice zoanthid collection at Denver’s hardcore reefing shop, Aquatic Art.
It was a mini colony of Hallucination Zoanthids that stopped me in my tracks,(discrepancy of color is difference between photo and video modes) and then made me appreciate the rest of Cris’s zoanthid broodstock in culture . I put together this minimix of the various colors and patterns for your appreciation – I hope that most reefers have access to zoanthids like these that they can at least window-shop.
I don’t know the names of all the strains pictured here, and I understand that there is some regional variation in what these morphs are called. But if you have some solid names for which polyps are which, I’d love to read your feedback in the comments below!
