The CalcFeeder Pro was easily one of our favorite devices of InterZoo 2016 and for this year PacificSun has taken it one step further. With the ‘plus’ version of their CalcFeeder Pro this automatic-style calcium reactor now gains support for a pH probe.
While Dastaco and CalcFeeder Pro both use a float valve and the saturation of CO2 into the reactor to automatically meter this acidic gas for dissolving aragonite medias, being able to know and regulate pH within the reactor body can help optimize dissolution rates. Together with the optical float switch and the pH probe the CalcFeeder Pro+ is one of the most finely tuned calcium reactor models and designs possible.
Of course this is more of an advanced hobbyist’s feature as the whole point of these automatic calcium reactors is to set it and forget it. But many control freaks will greatly appreciate having a better knowledge of what’s going on inside these very important calcium and carbonate pumps in well stocked reef tanks.
The CalcFeeder Pro+ with a BNC connection for adding a pH probe should only cost around $60 than the original controller, minus the probe itself, but you still need to make sure you have a model of the CalcFeeder body which has a port for the wetside of the probe.
