The summer heat can be hard to beat, especially in small and nano reef tanks where the volume isn’t enough to retain much heat, and for which there aren’t many efficient cooling options. The CSXC-1 Nano Chiller from Chill Solutions is one of the rare exceptions using a peltier style thermoelectric heat sink to really suck heat from any kind of water.
While having been on the market for several years, Chill Solutions has recently upgraded the thermostat from an analog dial to a digital LCD readout display with touch sensitive buttons for much higher precision. The 100 watt power supply of the CSXC-1 is sufficient to cool a 10 gallon tank by 10°F, it can manage 2-4°F pull down on a 30 gallon tank, with the sweet spot of refrigeration being a 20 gallon volume for which is can pull down the temperature between 5 and 8°F.
The CSXC-1 is similar to a typical chiller with inlet and outlet barbs, a built-in temperature sensor but the fan will only spin as fast as the need for cooling increases. If you’ve got a tiny tank and battling high summer temperatures the $219 nano chiller is hands down one of the most effective things you can do to safeguard your reef tank from getting too hot.
