Last week we premiered three videos of our tour of White Corals in Germany on the Youtube channel – culminating in one of the awesomest reef tanks we’ve featured this year. This eight foot long reef tank was teased earlier this year in a post highlighting its very interesting dual use of T5s on one side of the tank, and Radion LEDs on the other side, both to great effect.
Regardless of what lights this tank uses, the most apparent thing about this setup is the impeccable health of the corals, and the exquisite aquascape they are resting on. The natural asymmetry of this tank from side to side, top to bottom and front to back is so perfect it’s almost a rendered example of how to aquascape a reef tank.
If this reef tank wasn’t exquisite enough from one side, this aquarium is installed as a room divider so it can be viewed from both of the large panes plus one of ends. The White Corals reef aquarium display truly shines by demonstrating that great results can be achieved with current LED lighting, and legacy fluorescent lighting in the same tank.
But what we love most about this great, diverse and colorful display of reef corals is that there are no ‘tricks’ to the success of this reef aquarium. Good aquarium fundamentals with emphasis on bright lighting, good water flow, adequate skimming and standard mineral replenishment is all that you need to have happy, healthy and fast growing corals.
