The Profilux 4e is a new aquarium controller package from GHL which shaves off just a little bit from the full fledged Profilux 4. This ‘essential’ Profilux controller head unit is not nearly as basic as the bare bones Profilux Mini and instead eschews just a few of the less commonly used features of the Profilux.
As far as we can tell the Profilux 4e has nearly all the same ports, connections and sensors as the fully fledged version save for just a few. The Profilux 4e doesn’t have a port for conductivity and BNC connection for just one pH probe instead of two, and the dual S-Ports for 8 sockets and digital outputs.
Honestly, since the Profilux 4 has such a kitchen-sink approach to being the do-it-all aquarium controller, sacrificing just a couple of the lesser used connections and ports is something most users would hardly notice. Unless you have a very specific applications for digital out, or really want to monitor conductivity, or both tank pH and the acidity inside your calcium reactor simultaneously, the Essential Profilux 4e is still a powerhouse of aquarium control and monitoring.
This subtle trim of features brings the cost of the Profilux 4e down by one hundred dollars for a price of $419. As it is currently the P4e is really designed to entice existing Profilux 2 & 3 users to upgrade to a version with more modern features, especially the wireless connections. More complete sets of power sockets, probes and accessories including the Profilux 4e will be released in April with very competitive pricing and suite of features. [GHL]
