Ready to use in North America the Philips CoralCare Gen 2 lights have just landed! The Gen 2 lights feature a slimmer design, with an updated square form factor, and offer a new wireless control system paired with a smartphone app.
Unlike the previous generation, the CoralCare Gen 2 are now available in 120V (US). The previous generation which was only available in (220-240V) has not ventured far outside of Europe, and we’re excited to see how North American reef tanks look under this newly availabe reef LED.
Jake Adams at the Reef Builders has already been using the CoralCare Gen 2 light for a while over his dedicated mangrove and clam tank.
Earlier this year Tanne Hoff a long-time Reef Builders contributor from the Netherlands gave us an in-depth review of the CoralCare Gen2 light. Tanne has been using the CoralCare light series since 2016 and found “compared to the previous versions, the new lights stimulate more fluorescence in the corals.“
Like the first generation, CoralCare Gen 2 uses passive cooling instead of an internal cooling fan. The large thermal cooling surface lasts the lifetime of the light without a noisy fan.
CoralCare Gen 2 uses 68 LEDs in six wavelengths to recreate natural sunlight which is dimmable and easy to control. The CoralCare light uses Luxeon LED components manufactured by it’s parent company Philips, resulting is an LED with superior color, and efficiency.
LED’s used

One of the biggest upgrades to the light is the new wireless controller, previously the light could only be programmed through USB. Now you can connect two distinct lighting channels, with customized or preprogrammed schedules in the Philips CoralCare app. The app even allows you to share custom programming schedules between users.
