In case you needed any more evidence that LED Spotlights are still very popular in Japan we have another new line of second generation lamps to be announced this year. The Grassy LeDio RX121s is the second generation controllable LED Spotlight from the venerable Japanese reef aquarium brand which will be available in a blue spectrum Reef and full spectrum Fresh color spectrum color options.
It was right around five years ago that we got our hands on LeDio’s first controllable LED spotlight the RX122 which has a curious mode of control and programming since bluetooth is not built-in, but instead has a USB-C receptacle in which to plug in a separate bluetooth dongle for connecting and programming. The new RX121s uses the same decoupling of the USB ‘radio’ from the core lamp but the biggest new feature is that LeDio’s new spotlight has two channels of color control in each of their new lights.
Being able to change the intensity of a single spotlight is nice and all but this can also be achieved by simply raising and lowering the LED spotlight, this kind of flexibility is part of the appeal of the form factor. But having two channels of color control makes the light infinitely much more dynamic and flexible because it really enables fine tuning of the color spectrum to suit your preference or a particular application.
The two color channels of the LeDio RX121s Reef include a deep blue channel populated with 2 x 400, 2 x 425, one 440 and one 450nm LED while the white channel brightens things up a bit with one each of 470, 485, and 500nm which are light blue and cyan colors and is balanced with one 5000K and two 3500K warm white LEDs. Grassy LeDio is offering their new RX121s spotlights in silver and matte black colors for 13,800¥ or around $120 while the bluetooth dongle is sold separately for 3,040¥ which equates to around $26.
