The Reef Builders Studio was built with the express purpose of being a demonstration center for all things related to reef aquariums and today we’d like to show you ‘The Wall’. Unimaginatively named the wall is a series of four different aquariums ranging from a low light two foot Acan cube, a medium light euphyllia garden, a high light ‘kitchen sink‘ tank, and a very high light mangrove lagoon aquarium.
We’ve featured all of these on their own over the years but we thought it’d be fun and informative to share these with you, side by side, since they are all part of the same reef aquarium system. What makes the wall of reef tanks such an interesting showcase is that some things are identical between the aquariums – like the water, the way we provide the water flow, a minimal amount of rock – and the things which are different, namely the lights and the corals they light up.
Across the wall of reef tanks we are using Kessil A500X in a narrow spotlight configuration, the brand new Chihiros Nova 1, the Neptune Systems SKY, and the Maxspect Jump L-165 which all produce different qualities of light to match the dimension of the tanks and the needs of the corals. We’ve done a lot of work to these tanks over the years and are very proud of how each of them have turned out, but we still hope to improve on some details as we discuss in the video.
