Reef Factory has released a photo and information about its up-and-coming fleece filter launch, Smart Roller. The device can hang on a sump or stand on extendable legs and comes with a 40-meter roll, which the company estimates will last users 1.5 months. We don’t yet know if there will be just one or several model sizes, or the maximum recommended flow rate, and we can’t yet see from the rendered image if it uses a float switch or an optical sensor to detect when the water level rises inside the unit, and the roll needs advancing.
Reef Factory does detail the smart features, however, which include connection and control via the smart reef app, how much of the filter roll has been used, and how long before it is estimated to need changing. It will also be able to send a notification if the roll gets jammed. A media basket is provided underneath and roll replacement is “quick and easy,” according to the company.
Based just on the one photo, we think we can make out an “M” for medium, so we’re guessing that there may be “S,” “M,” and “L,” sizes like they do with their lights. Reef Factory fans will spot the fish shape from their logo, laser cut into the acrylic, and the legs look like they will double up as hooks just by flipping outwards and mounting higher up. Connection looks to be via hard pipe to a drain, although a hosetail and flexy pipe should also be possible.
With news just last week of their Smart test kits, the new Smart Roller is yet another device that Reef Factory will launch with connectivity to its Smart Reef app. It’s fast becoming a one-stop shop for a family of reef aquarium devices that can all be controlled with just one application.
