We’ve got the Friday feeling here at Reef Builders today. Several members of the team are setting up new reef tanks and with new tanks come endless coral possibilities, so let’s start with some real eye candy and a dream coral for many, Acanthophyllia deshayesiana.
Also known as the Meat Coral or Doughnut Coral, these single large polyp, puffy stony corals look like hoop skirts with their cascading fleshy frills, and our late Managing Editor Jake Adams had a thing for them too. So here are just five Acanthophyllia highlighted by Jake over the years, and enthused about and dissected like only Jake could.
