If you are looking for an inspirational aquarium that is reflective of the times, look no further than the emoceans display tank. A spectacle of both inspiration and aspiration, images and video just jump out at you from your screen on account of its build, minimalism, aquascape, and equipment.
The emoceans tank represents the current state of the art in reefkeeping. A long, wide peninsula, the euro-braced, highly polished acrylic is thick yet ultra-clear, still clearer than glass, prism-like, and oozing build quality at the same time. Via some heavy-duty wave pumps this 10’ long tank has managed to keep in-tank equipment to an absolute minimum, and still omit pumps and even closed loops from the peninsula end of the tank.
The result is a reef aquarium utopia. emoceans has designed and built a dream tank. But it’s not a dream, it’s real, and it’s scalable down to much more manageable (and in-budget,) dimensions if required. We were keen to find out more about its vital statistics.
The build
The tank is 300x120x65cm/118”x47”x25” and holds 2100 liters/555 gallons net volume. It’s manufactured from 30mm thick acrylic on a custom stand, and with a custom 250 x 74 x 50cm PVC sump that’s so easy on the eye, they may as well leave the doors off.
The sump alone is larger than most home aquaria, but it’s an integral part of what makes this eye-catching super modern build possible – full TRITON Method – incorporating a large algae refugium first, fresh Australian live rock, protein skimming, and of course regular ICP testing, N-DOC testing, and the full gamete of TRITON CORE-7 Base Elements, supplements, and treatments.
Lighting is wall-to-wall, edge-to-edge LED panels, built into a custom emoceans canopy. This isn’t just aquarium lighting, it’s a fully programmable synthetic skylight, providing par, spectrum, and pop in abundance while hanging high above the tank with no wires on show or noise, completing the ultra-premium showcase design.
The aquascape
The aquascape is as progressive and visually appealing as the tank itself. Decorated solely with tree-like bommies, made from dry natural coral branches, the canopies are adorned with a rainbow of purple stylos, red digis, blue, pink, and green acros, with a clam placed here and there below.
The combination of 100% hard branching coral cover on top with virtually nothing below aids the visual appeal and cleanliness of the scape, seemingly blending a vision of a natural coral reef within the framework of an ultra modern aquarium. It’s great for flow, and nutrient control too.
Experienced reefers will know the time and daily dedication that it will take to keep all five surfaces of this large aquarium clean, but it’s worth it and its immaculate coral health and color are only enhanced by the water clarity, the borrowed view looking through the tank, and the ultra-clean, algae free acrylic panels.
The fish
The stars of the tank are actually the large shoal of Green chromis, behaving very naturally by grouping tightly, dashing in and out of the coral heads, and surfing the really strong current. Sometimes less is more, and by majoring in just one shoal of uniformly colored, subtle chromis only enhances the corals, the aquascape, the design, and the overall emoceans vision for this aquarium.
We love this tank, we are attracted to this tank, and it makes us want to redesign our own aquarium from the ground up and emulate it.
About emoceans
emoceans are marine aquarium professionals and aquarium consultants that specialise in TRITON Method setups. Founded in 2015 they plan, build and maintain high-end aquariums around the world as well as offering a full range of premium services and products, matching the TRITON method and philosophy.
They feel that, while the TRITON Method works for professional aquariums of this size, using the accumulated knowledge built from over a decade of testing and research on TRITON Method aquariums, it also provides a level of ease and control that is ideal for the beginner.
For these reasons it is the “method of choice” for a company like emoceans due to the low level of maintenance combined with high success rate, security and support provided through TRITON’s worldwide ICP testing services.
The emoceans show tank is another example of a successful high end TRITON Method aquariums similar to the one owned by Juan Gabriel in Mexico and featured on Reef Builders by Jake Adams last year.
