Maxspect has revamped its popular Jump gyres with the launch of two new upgraded wave pump models. The new MJ-GF308 and MJ-GF316 look similar to their predecessors, with the classic handlebar style gyre design and orange propellors, only with three main differences – added water flow directors, a new controller, and now you can link them so that multiple Jump gyres can all be controlled together.
The smaller MJ-GF308 is the same size as the Jump MJ-GF2K, at 8.78” long, and using a maximum of 25 watts of energy. It’s had an output increase however to 2113gph/8000lph from 1849gph/7000lph. The MJ-GF316 is the same size as the old MJ-GF4K, at 12.1” and using 45 watts, only its maximum output has also increased from 3962gph/15000lph for the 4K, to 4227gph/16000lph for the 316.
The controller has been overhauled too, with an even sexier full-color display, five flow settings, and 10 speed settings, plus feed mode, and linkage mode to enable several units to be controlled as a group. Link-up mode enables sync and anti-sync, and flow patterns include Random, Rapid Pulsing, Slow Pulsing, Gradual Speed mode, and Constant Speed mode.
What we think
The Jump series is the most cost-effective way to buy into Maxspect’s patented crossflow technology, and they’ve just made two good wave pumps better with the clip-on 360-degree flow directors, a better controller, link-up capability, and more flow. The flow directors don’t have the added side-to-side flow control that the premium Maxspect Gyre Cloud Control does, but it helps reduce any vortexing when mounted near the surface, as well as propelling water even further across the tank or even at two different angles.
Note there is no Wi-Fi or app control on these entry-level gyres, but they are still feature-rich, cost-effective, capable, compelling wave pumps.
