Coral Oasis, a store based in Hanoi, Vietnam, has brought in, hands down, one of the best smooth skins I have ever laid eyes on. I spoke to the owner, who told me they had the piece for around six months. It was browned out until two months ago when it started to transform before their eyes.
It now sports a psychedelic blend of yellow, pink, orange, blue, and green – a true living mosaic. This specimen is truly in a league of its own.
They currently have it under a T5/LED hybrid. They run 2 ATI coral plus and 2 ATI blue plus bulbs and a Hydra 64 with 110% on blue, violet, royal, uv, 15% on red, green, and 35% on cool white at peak schedule. The schedule lasts 10 hours, and this Acropora is currently sitting around 500-600 µmol of PAR. The target values for chemistry in the systems it’s in:
- Alk: 8-9
- Calcium: 450
- Mg: 1280
- No3: 35
- Po4: they don’t test or chase
At the moment, they are growing out the piece, but they may release frags in the future. They have decided to name it the “CO Toxic Inferno.” Regardless of where your stance is on the name game, a piece this unique truly deserves one. Perhaps one day, regulations will decrease, and we will be able to get a piece of this one-of-a-kind smooth skin into the Reef Builders studio.
