Would you like a free copy of Soft Corals and Sea Fans? The Australian Institute of Marine Science has about 200 copies to give away, for free. There will not be a second edition printed, so once these are gone, they are gone. You’ll need to pay shipping for the book, which is about $18 for those of us that don’t live down under. The AIMS did want you to send credit card details via email, but we suggest emailing them and finding a good contact number to give out your payment details. More information on this can be found below.
The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) is giving away the remaining copies of the book ‘Soft Corals and Sea Fans: A comprehensive guide to the tropical shallow water genera of the central-west Pacific, the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea’ by Katharina Fabricius & Phil Alderslade, colour throughout, 264 pp. (2001). The book will be free of charge, but postage must be paid before delivery of the books (see instructions below). We still have a few hundred copies left to find a good new home. No second edition is planned, so please pass on this message to people who may be interested. The offer is valid until 30 June 2010.
Regards
Katharina Fabricius

This is an awesome and covers many soft coral genera that I didnt know existed until I got this book. $18 is a no brainer to import this bad baby from Australia. Not to mention, if they are sending out the last of their stock does this mean that the book will no longer be printed and start to get scarce?

This could be the best soft coral and sea fan book ever made! Extremely detailed, either try to get it free or pick it up online, it is a must own for everyone.

Wow, “no brainer”, indeed Jake! Thank you so much for the tip guys. You know, I vaguely remember paying a small fortune to land Leewis and Janse’s “Advances in Coral Husbandry in Public Aquariums” vol2. Which is another great find. If one is not familiar with it, its basically a bunch of research and “white papers” of what and most importantly what did not work (along with possible solutions) for various aquarists and curators that manage coral reef displays in the public aquaria field.
Thanks again, you are doing a great job!

Thanks for this! I am awaiting a reply to send payment!

FYI: do not EVER send your credit card info over email to anyone.

I recieved an email from them and was told they only accept an email of credit card info or a direct bank transfer. Smells fishy to me.

Best deal ever! About $16 to the US.
I emailed them, and received a reply next day saying I could call them and do it over the phone, and so I did. It literally took me 5 minutes, and the lady I talked to was really kind.
Just call their main number: (07) 4753 4444, and ask for either Pam or Elizabeth.
They’re open 8AM-4PM local: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=954
Thank you ReefBuilders!
P.S. They’re going fast! Hurry…

This particular post is actually the best on this sought after topic. I concur with your conclusions and will eagerly look forwards to the forthcoming updates. Merely telling you thanks will not solely be enough, for the massive readability with your writing.
