Freshwater and Marine Aquarium Magazine (FAMA) is dead

13

For those of you who receive the Freshwater and Marine Aquarium (FAMA) Magazine you won’t any longer. According to our very reliable sources FAMA will cease to exist. The June 2010 issue will be the final issue of Freshwater and Marine Aquarium (FAMA) as a stand-alone magazine. Apparently BowTie, Inc is combining FAMA into Aquarium Fish International (AFI). Before this change BowTie, Inc. had 4 different magazines for the aquarium market. A part from the dwindling sales of print media publications this was a no-brainer and probably should have happened sooner.  After the change they will have 3  aquarium print magazine publications. We wouldn’t be surprised if that gets trimmed down again if readers continue to stop reading print magazines. This is yet another print magazine that has bit the dust. And hopefully the last.

Same here. FAMA is a bit more technical than AFI, and also had a good blend of marine/freshwater articles.

I’m a long time subscriber of FAMA. Yesterday I got a card from them saying that they combined FAMA and Aquarium Fish International Magazine into one. My last FAMA will be July’s issue and after that, they gave me my remaining FAMA issues as credit towards AFI. Another Aquarium mag bites the dust. Sad!

I would have to agree that the magazine wasn’t the same after Dons passing. I have been with FAMA in one way or another since day one. I am very sad to see this change happen and would have eliminated one of Bowties other print magazines before considering doing this to FAMA. Poor old Don is churning in his grave I am sure.

I’m very sorry to hear this.  I used to work just blocks from the FAMA office in Sierra Madre, California, and dropped in from time to time.  I even got to speak with Don Dewey once in awhile.
