My Reef 2.0 from Digital Aquatics

It’s been a long wait for My Reef, the digital management system from Digital Aquatics controllers and it looks like it was well worth the wait. Digital Aquatics announced over the weekend that their My Reef 2.0 was in the final stages of their Alpha Release. Find a few quick tidbits below the break including additional screen shots.

1) Interfacing: You can do almost anything via myReef that you can do on the head unit, including standby, programming, and system setup. You’ll also be able to name channels and probes as well as modules. Those names will be viewable on the head unit as well.

2) Diagnostics: You’ll be able view advanced system data that will help trouble shoot issues and identify problems.

3) Updates: myReef will be able to tell you if your system has any firmware that’s out of day. Not only that you’ll be able to update via myReef and the system will walk you through it!

4) Support: This is one of the features we’ve not talk to much about. myReef will be able to help you help us with support by helping configure emails with critical data so that we can minimize the back and forth email support. This will be a big help as systems get more and more complicated as issues can get more complex.

    Wow final alpha stages? Now just needs to go through some out-of-house beta testing (where IMO most of the bugs are really found) and then it’ll be ready!!!

    If they only had this out when they released their RKE I would still have mine.

    One thing I like about it is the Interface!! I have a Neptune Systems Apex (great controller) and I love the iphone application but the computer interface is… well 1980′s in its GUI format. Neptune systems needs to update their GUI to something on similar style IMO

    Expect a makeover of the interface here too. Once all the bugs get ironed out, its a heck of a lot easier to get in there and clean it up and make it sexier. I really liked this interface and hopefully down the line they can get into the Mac side. I know the market segment is smaller than the PC side but would be nice to have this for both platforms.

    I would like a Mac OS X version also, but I don’t think that will ever happen. DA is pretty slow at releasing stuff and bad at meeting deadlines, so a Mac version, if ever talked about, would take years to get out. I just don’t think they have the available resources to devote to a mac edition. It has taken them almost two years to produce the PC one, and they still have a couple of more modules to make to catch up with the competition.

    I’m expecting the worst. A cataclysmic bug or some other kind of fail.

    A price drop of the RKE-NET module would be an awesome move. Right now, a comparably equipped Apex is $20 cheaper than the tired RKE with the NET module.

    Radio silence is what I thought of at first dealing with this company. I just wanted sell their product and spend some money with them but they are more interested in communicating via twitter or facebook. If I have to follow you via these two outlets and you cant even reply directly to a customer.
