Coral-Shop aquarium products now officially available in North America via Finsreef

17

For the last couple of years we’ve covered the unique Coral-Shop products from across the pond first as a curious line of balling and seawater chemistry management solutions. However, as of this week the Sol additives and Profitower dosing pump are no longer just the domain of European reefers as the first shipment of Coral Shop products has landed at Finsreef.

Chemical additives are not easy to get excited about so besides the phosphate-reducing liquid additive DispoPhos, the Profitower dosing pump we already love and the Coral-Shop test kits are what we are interested in trying out, especially the Sulphate, Potassium, Organics and Chlorinity test kits. Coral-Shop and Finsreef are both sponsors of Reef Builders.

Seriously, is the fact that it stands upright worth 180 dollars over a ProfiLux?  Is it honestly a 180 dollars better than one?  Is it 400 dollars better than a three unit Bubble Magus dosing system?

    Try $210 more expensive than a ProfiLux Stand alone 4 pump. ;) GHL SA4 = $489

Or $300 more than four BRS dosers + an Apex Jr.

  • Landon Lasseter

With prices like that, count me out as well.  Looks like it uses the same generic pump heads used by a lot of other generic and brand name dosing pumps, but at a serious price markup.

The $699 price also includes Marine Line Set A1, and all hoses and outlet hose holder. It is a complete turn key package for someone who wants to get into dosing with a high quality unit that has several features that are not available on other units.

nope…still not selling me…not even close
250 more than four BRS dosers (comes with all tubing, etc) + an Apex Jr + BRS bulk dosing (which will last 10x as long)

    Justin,
Not trying to sell you, there are many people in the hobby who appreciate a quality, attractive, well designed product that has more features than others on the market. I do not think that you can calibrate the BRS supply doser, nor does it have an option to give an alarm when the containers are low does it?  That is not a feature set on the Apex Jr either. If the doser is above the price that you are wishing to pay,  it does not mean that it is not worth the cost to another person who will appreciate the quality and features that it offers. Also the additives are not simple two part solutions, that are complex mixtures that are not your standard Ca and Alk. Take a look at http://www.coral-shop and take a look at some of the products before making comparisons. You might find out that your are not comparing like products. We do not try to offer the cheapest products out there, just some of the best.

    Landon,
It actually uses GD-Thomas peristaltic pumps along with
Highest food-grade quality RAUSIL transparent silicone hose

I think you should be careful here. There’s several dozen valuable things that the Apex Jr would do that this will not. If I’m on vacation in Peru and my doser adds too much alk, will your system alert me by text message and allow me to vary my dose from my phone?

You know a Monster cable is a very well made, high quality HDMI cable. But that doesn’t mean it’s worth $50 more than other nice cables.

I am not comparing it to an Apex Jr, or any other controller. A controller is a completely different product. Products are different to meet different customers needs and/or wants. If the Profi Tower is not in you budget, nor you do see the value in it, that does not mean that the next person does not fell that the quality and features are worth the additional cost over a plain, no feature dosing pump. The point is that it has a different feature set than the BRS Doser, @XD_1:disqus  Part, and Apex Jr combination, so it is not an apples to apples comparison.
Monster is a well marketed product that many customers are happy that they have purchased. I personally like a better quality cable than Monster and am willing to pay the additional cost. It is up the individual consumer to decide the value of a product and if it is worth the cost to them.

Or around $450 more than 4 dosing pumps from Reef Angel ($109 for 2 pumps). Plus whatever timers you wish to use (controller or simple $5 digital timers).

To each their own though.. I prefer cheaper methods to accomplish the same thing but I can see a certain group of people this product would appeal to (like the customers from Tanked if they ever make a real reef tank).

I would recommend you googling “monster cable scam”. They are really not “high quality”, actually a $50 monster HDMI cable is the same as a $5 HDMI cable from monoprice.

Yeah, I know, and I actually use Monoprice cables on all my equipment.  I didn’t push the analogy that far in the post because I thought Brian might illustrate the point in his reply.  And he did.

All good then. :) I just wanted to make sure you didn’t fall for the Best Buy sales pitch. ;)

The Libra dosers will be the way to go for higher end dosing pumps and we expect to see these hit Stateside in Feb.  For lower priced dosers we like the Aquahouse dosing pumps.
